October | HQ update |

Belated, but I have been an extremely busy wolf this past month!

I had been meaning to update the office since before the official day 1 back in Jan, but simply had not made the time.

It had been a guestroom since we moved in, sometimes the holder of 'stuff's' that had no home yet, or was in the process of going up or down to the loft.

The 'Waiting Place' you could have called it.

It was decorated in F&B's Sulking room pink - which is still one of my absolute favourites if the word 'cosy' is anywhere near a brief - but it made it completely uninviting to work in.

I wanted fresh and bright, and fun.

So I went through the same process I do with any client and asked myself the same questions.

Q1: How do you want it to feel?

... Bright and Exciting?

... Snug and Warm?

... Dark and Moody?

Q2: What external influences could effect your choices?

... Is the room more South or North facing?

... What existing colours do you have to work with? (as in floor and furniture).

... What wall colours can you see from that room?

Q3: What shape will the paint take?

... Entire room in one colour?

... Part painted walls, if so what height?

... Contrast colour the woodwork, architraves and doors or alternately treat it the same as the wall finish.

... Same or contrast ceiling finish?

... Ever considered a metalic?

... What about a literal shape or stripe?

All of this I mentally cycled through whilst sitting on the floor of my office... 30 mins later, decisions made:

- Part painted wall: my office has two built in cupboards, two windows and is a fat L shape = One colour wrapping around will tie all this together.

- Biscuit colour above = will omit north facing brightness, provide a warmth against the grey sofa and carpet.

- Blue below = will fit in nicely with pinky hallway hues, be bright and purposeful yet also comforting.

- Yellow to back of open shelving and possibly window surround = will provide level of playfulness, and I may actually be able to see what is in that here cupboard.

- Architrave and door = will be treated the same as the walls.

The room isn't quite finished as the art needs to go up, but you can see the difference paint has made if you follow my HQ highlight on my insta! I LOVE being in here now. Sorry Boston Tea Party, you may be seeing a lot less of me!

If you find the thought of all these decisions too much for you - get in touch - I can save your precious time, and money.

Kim x
