September | Natural Materials |

The start of any scheme is usually: a plain, a pattern, a texture.

When it comes to adding in subsidiary elements to a Look & Feel or Sample Board, natural materials - such as wood, stone or marble - can act as a buffer between the shoutier elements.

As in nature: woods, stones and natural colours blend seamlessly and work in harmony as the viewing scale is so large everything is allowed breathing space. It is harder to corral these elements in an interior scheme which is so much smaller, and has (usually) a rigid framework.

Many houses have unfortunate features that you have to deal with, either for a certain amount of time (that boiler that needs replacing) or forever (the fusebox).

I've mentioned several times over the last 9 months worth of posts - you need to be careful that the 'shouty elements' in your home are ones you've chosen and are intentional.

When you enter your home, your room - what catches your eye first?
