May | Sight lines… this is a biggie |

When you walk through your house… what do you see?

Having good sightlines through my house was the reason we invested in moving the toilet in our bathroom remodel. Not only was it the first thing you saw as you walked up the stairs, but it also stood in front of the only section of wall that was suitable for a large mirror.

Site shot: collections of furniture, warm and fresh tones, hard and soft furnishings and a pop of colour.

Favourite views in my house and quick wins for yours -

Gallery walls, I have 3 – remember to only leave an inch or max two between each frame, dependent on size and only use up to three frame finishes.

Wicker stair basket – there will always be stuff that needs to go upstairs, this way it is contained and when overfloweth it can be carried upstairs to be sorted. Rather than just creeping up one stair at a time and tripping you up if you’re not careful.

Bold colours – I’ve painted my built-in wardrobe doors Craig and Rose Lamplighter/ bright yellow to pick up colours within an A0 wedding print that sits alongside it. This is also reflected in the full-length mirror in my hallway to really brighten up the space.

A goal – this is slightly esoteric but one of the first things you see in my daughter’s room is a Wonder woman dress – a reminder to my girls (and me!) to be full of courage, power and wonder.

I met my mother in Abergavenny last week, who was handing off my Mamgu’s table which curiously she no longer has space for. Side note – it’s my new office desk and is perfectly proportioned to the room. Thank you Serendipity! We met at the Angel hotel/restaurant and they had an ante-room just off reception - you have to walk past it to go anywhere else in the building - that hit the right note.

When you walk through your house… what do you see? When you settle into a room, what will your primary views be?
